David Aughenbaugh

David Aughenbaugh (b. 1961, Arizona, USA) is an artist, photographer and musician. His work uses abstraction and scale to evoke a sense of mystery and awe. Trained in sculpture and graphic design, he built a career in computer animation with work in games, television and the feature film industry as a visual effects compositor. David’s interest in human consciousness and trance states led him to study hypnotherapy. Combining these interests his work focuses on how visuals and sound can be used intentionally to affect the viewer’s mental state. Of particular interest are flow states, characterized by quieting the thinking mind, relaxing the body and activating the creative imagination.

David works near the cutting edge of technology. As a result his experience includes computer animation for TV in the 1980’s, streaming video on the web in the 1990’s, and working on the first VR project to be nominated for an Oscar in 2016. He was part of the VFX team that won an Oscar for Visual Effects on the film “First Man” in 2019. He was an early adopter utilizing AI as a tool in his artistic practice beginning in 2021.

He does not use text prompts and the AI was not trained on other artists’ work. No animals were harmed. All pixels were sustainably sourced.
